Pauline Bastard creates complex narratives developed through installations, films and sculptures containing and relating to her experiments. Through collaborations she generates with scriptwriters, psychoanalysts, anthropologists, she questions the construction of the self and its place in the contemporary world.

In Alex, she has invented a person and made his existence as real possible – employing an interpreter and a team of professionals to help him to be. States of Matter was a project in which she took the opposite approach  – buying a real house and gradually dispersing it in the surrounding area, making it disappear. Bastard creates stories, making them happen, using situations as matter and taking seemingly unrealizable experiences as material for production.
